Reiki Hand Positions
REIKI HAND POSITIONS FOR SELF-HEALING AND HEALING OTHERS
With the simple act of placing the hands on oneself or on another person Reiki energy automatically flows.
You would usually start with drawing the Dai Ko Mio, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, Sei He Ki and Cho Ku Rei symbols over the client, three times for each symbol.
Than you start channelling Reiki energy through your hands to yourself or to the recipient's head, front of the body, back, knees and feet. This enables the energy to flow right to the source of the problem and not just the manifesting symptom. Reiki energy goes to where ever the recipient needs it most. Remember not to force where the energy is going, just let it flow through you to your client.
During a typical session place your hands on the different locations of the body for 3-5 minutes each, or hold until you feel you should move your hands away ( use your intuition). Cup hands slightly, fingers holding together, the lighter the touch the better. You or your client should be lying down comfortably on a treatment table or sitting on a chair if they so wish.

THE REIKI MASTER SYMBOL
DAI KO MYO
Pronunciation: dye-ko-me-o
Alias: The Master Symbol
![[image]](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b46/DemonKinK/DaiKoMyo.jpg)
It is the most powerful symbol in the Reiki group. It can be used only by Reiki Masters.
This symbol is used to heal the soul. Since it deals with the soul and our spiritual self it heals disease and illness from the original source in the aura/energy fields.
It helps to provide enlightenment and piece. It also allows to become more intuitive and psychic.
With practice this symbol brings profound life changes.
METHODS FOR SYMBOL ACTIVATION
They can be activated in any of the following ways:
* By drawing them with your palm centre
* BY drawing them with your finger
* By visualizing them
* By drawing them with your third eye
* By spelling the symbol's name three times.
You can use whatever method you wish, but don't forget that it's the intent that counts.
Where to apply them during a healing?
First place the symbol(s) on your own hands/palms and then redraw or visualise the same symbols on:
* The clients crown chakra
* The areas to be treated (if known)
* The clients hands/palms
If you can not recall a Reiki symbol, use the "alias", because both have the same energy.
With practice the symbols will become less relevant and the focus will change to the "intent" of the specific energies required.

Reiki and Yoga
The practice of Reiki and Yoga go hand in hand. The practice of Yoga increases the flow of Reiki energy in a persons life. Yoga helps a person understand Reiki in a much deeper way. Reiki helps a person understand the deeper energies of Yoga.
Yoga is the ancient art and science of balancing the physical and subtle anatomy of the individual.
In Sanscrit yoga means “union”, a union between mind, body and spirit.
A regular practice of yoga can bring very good results in therapies such as physiotherapy, psychotherapy, and in treatments of arthritis, asthma and hearth problems. Also it gives excellent result in eliminating alcohol, tobacco and drug addictions.
Scientist around the world are studying the effects of yoga on human body. A very interesting study was made by a Hungarian doctor Vigh Bela, on how the nervous system was influenced by yoga exercises. He came to a conclusion that certain asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing) were connected with certain internal organs, endocrine glands and psychological states.
The seven basic asanas (postures) associated with seven chakras according to Dr. Vigh :
![[image]](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b46/DemonKinK/ReikiandYoga.jpg)
There are many different types of Yoga, but here we will explore some basic Hatha Yoga techniques that bring depth to the art and science of all forms of Reiki..
Hatha Yoga is a combination of physical postures and breath.
· Ha- in breath
· Tha- out breath
Hatha Yoga, so called from a certain portion of its teaching, as to the practice of special methods of dealing with the incoming and outgoing, or "Ha" and "Tha" breaths, by which it is intended to affect the instrument, the body, so that it in turn will affect the Self within. ( Seven Schools of Yoga by Ernest Wood)
Hatha Yoga in these modern times works from the outside in to bring the physical forces into alignment with the subtle anatomy of our Higher Divine Nature. It is through the alignment of our energies with the Divine that the flow of Reiki energy for healing and personal growth is increased.
HATHA YOGA POSTURES
The postures of Hatha Yoga were designed with specific anatomical intent. Here we will explore the Sun Salutation and it’s 12 postures which open up the inner channels of energy.
SUN SALUTATION
The Sun Salutation is composed of 12 postures. Click here to learn them.
Swami Satchidananda in his book "Integral Yoga Hatha" says that the Sun Salutation is the summary of Hatha Yoga postures. This means that these twelve postures are the least amount of yoga to be practiced to bring a balance into the twelve anatomical aspects of the physical body and its integration with the Higher Self. Each posture with the focus of intent has a particular anatomical and benefit. Each posture has more than one level of energy and focus.
The Breaths. The Sun Salutation may also be combined with the different breaths. There are many ways to work with breath and the postures. Some breaths are easy and some are difficult. It really is a matter of personal preference and your level of curiosity about the energy associated with the different techniques.
Breath of the Sun This is the simplest breath and has two levels:
· In the simplest form the postures are done one after another breathing an in-breath or an out breath on each posture. One round of the twelve postures is completed in six complete breaths.
· The second method is to breathe one complete breath with each posture. One round of the twelve postures is twelve complete breaths
The Intent. The intent of each posture can be expanded to many levels of healing and personal growth. One function of these postures is to enable a person to learn the knowledge of the subtle anatomy.
As the intent is focused on the different layers of this knowledge the Reiki Energy flows through the anatomical aspects of our being and unfolds and opens us to a deeper awareness.
It is not necessary to work with these postures everyday to receive benefits. Two or three times a week brings some balance, helps relieve stress, and brings some health and healing .
Once you learn these postures you will find that few minutes time is all you need to work through these steps. Of course you may work with yoga everyday if you wish and increase the length of time of your practice. It is all up to you.
If you want to learn more, find a Hatha Yoga book to learn from. You can also find a Yoga teacher if you want to learn beyond the basics.

POTENTIAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF REIKI HEALING TREATMENTS
When the flow of the "Life Force Energy" is disrupted, weekend or blocked, emotional or health problems tend to occur. Imbalances can be caused from many situations occurring in our lives, such as: emotional or physical trauma, injury, negative thoughts and feelings, including fear, worry, doubt, anger, anxiety, negative self-talk, toxicity, nutritional depletion, destructive lifestyle and relationships, neglect of self and lack of love for oneself or others, from emotions that are not expressed in a healthy way...
Reiki is excellent for healing any physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues of any kind and it gives wonderful results.
Some Of The Reiki Healing Health Benefits:
Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension,
It accelerates the bodie's self-healing abilities,
Aids better sleep,
Reduses blood pressure
Can help with accute (injuries) and chronic problems (asthma, eczema, headaches, etc.) and aides the breaking of addictions,
Helps relieve pain,
Removes energy blockages, adjusts the energy flow of the endocrine system bringing the body into balance and harmony,
Assists the body in cleaning itself from toxins,
Reduces some of the side effects of drugs and helps the body to recover from drug therapy after surgery and chemotherapy,
Supports the immune system,
Increases vitality and postpones the aging process,
Raises the vibrational frequency of the body,
Helps spiritual growth and emotional clearing
When we are relaxed, stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal.
Long term practice of whole-body reiki will restore the general condotion of the body. It will open the energy channels and this will allow the body to deal properly and naturally with stress and build-up toxins and cope with anxiety and depression.
When a person is in good health, regular therapy will increase the bodies built-in defences. This will manifest itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. The person will gain a positive outlook on life.
Reiki will also provide additional energy required to recover from illness.
A Reiki healing session can induce an extremely comfortable state of being that can bring alteration in the clients consciousness.
If used with other natural therapies (meditation, crystals, aroma therapy, Bach Flower remedies, homeopathy, etc.) Reiki will reinforce their effect.
It can be used also as complementary therapy, because Reiki is truly a complementary care. It complements and enhances the health care the patient receives in the hospital or from other health care providers.
Reiki healing complements Eastern and Western medicine and everybody can benefit from it.It is beneficial to the health of woman (even pregnant), man, children and it is also excellent to be used on animals (dogs, cats, horses), plants, water, etc.
Reiki healing energy is a tool for use at any moment, any time, any where for on-the-spot stress release, pain relief and quick energy.

Dorje Reiki
LINEAGE: Sensei Mikao Usui- Sensei Chujiro Hayashi-Sensei Hawayo K. Takata-Sensei Phyllis Lei Furumoto-Sensei Phillip Morgan-Sensei Robert Vaughan-Sensei Linda Nickel-Sensei Lawton R. Smith
ORIGINS: A new system of Reiki has come out of my practice, studies, attunements, and from the needs of my clients and students. I am calling it Dorje Reiki."Dorje" is the Tibetan word for "diamond-like, or lightning" {"Vajra" in Sanskrit.} "Dorje" stands for the divine universal diamond-like light/lightning which permeates all of existence and energizes all living things and the understanding of which can arrive to an individual in a flash of light. It is adamantine, conscious, knowledgeable, caring and powerful. It is the energetic synthesis of all dualities, and represents the fusion/merging of the infinite with the finite, the mental/spiritual with the physical. It is related to the concept of Kundalini and Tumo in the sense of the merging of spiritual energy with the phsyical for the purpose of healing and enlightenment. Dorje Reiki's energy nature is quite like that of Vajra Reiki merged with Karuna Ki. I chose to consider it a form of Reiki since it combines the best of those traditions to which I have been attuned. It is used for healing and personal growth for both the client and for the practitioner.
In the tradition of many modern systems of Reiki, I also considered the Sanskrit names: Pranayena Reiki (out of love), or Ekatvena Reiki (in oneness), or Ojasa Reiki (concentrated psychic power), or even Bhajate Reiki (rendering transcendental loving service). None of these express simply and directly the nature of Reiki which I have come to know, except "Dorje Reiki".(Dorje is pronounced variously "DOOR-jay" or "DOE-jay). I recognize that there are those who would question the use of a Tibetan name , or even the use of the word "Reiki" for my system. In order to provide a bridge for those who know Reiki, as well as Tibetan thought, these terms are used to suggest an approach, not a direct connection with things Tibetan and/or Reiki. Healing knows no boundaries, either of geography or of thought. Also, methods of healing evolve beyond their roots, providing a growth of method and energy not forseen by those trained in earlier traditions.
Although I primarily practice Traditional Usui Reiki, I have had many requests for Reiki procedures which come from various other Reiki traditions. Rather than confuse students and clients with my instinctive use of elements from various Reiki traditions, I have decided to create and practice a unified form of Reiki which reaches to its earliest roots, as well as incorporating ideas from various other energy practices and beliefs. I will practice this form of Reiki only when it is specifically requested.
The elements of Dorje Reiki come from the best elements of Traditional Usui Reiki, Karuna Ki, Prema Reiki, Usui/Tibetan Reiki, Non-Traditional Reiki, and Seichim Reiki. Dorje Reiki also has elements of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism (from which the ideas for Reiki were originally developed, called Vajrayana Buddhism in India), elements of shamanism (Tibetan, Celtic and Native American - these cultures have all tapped the same source of healing energy in various ways), and from my own experiences and insights. It can be both a healing system and a system of personal development. If it is used only as a healing system, it is taught without the elements of meditation, and the attunement is simpler.
Dorje Reiki uses some symbols, as needed, and assumes the practitioner will do daily personal meditations and personal Reiki. The symbols are generally those of more traditional forms of Reiki with a few additions. They would be familiar to most Reiki Masters. The meditations are, for the most part, similar to those of Dr. Usui and of certain Tibetan practices. Attunement is needed, with all chakras and hands receiving attunement. Distant attunement is possible, but in-person is distinctly preferable. There are no required beliefs, authority, or procedures whatsoever; there is an invitation to consider an expanded understanding of the energy of the cosmos and how one can experience it.

PREPARING FOR A REIKI ATTUNEMENT
For a period of 21 days after your attunement, changes will be made by the Reiki that will open your system and allow you to be a clear channel of Reiki energy. These changes take place in the chakras (energy centers) and in the energy field (aura), as well as in the physical body itself. Emotions may surface to be cleared, as well as negative thought patterns. To assist in this process and to improve the results of your attunement, we recommend that you undergo a process of purification. If you feel guided, we encourage you to follow as many of the steps below as possible. Please do not attempt anything that will cause you stress.
1. If possible, refrain from eating meat, fish, or fowl for three days prior to the attunement. These foods often contain drugs such as penicillin and hormones, as well as pesticides and heavy metals. These will make your system sluggish and out of balance. Do not eat anything heavy the day of your attunement.
2. Consider doing a water or juice fast for one to three days, especially if you are currently a vegetarian or have had previous experience with fasting.
3. Minimize or eliminate your use of coffee and caffeine beverages. These create imbalances in the nervous and endocrine systems. Use no caffeine products on the day of your attunement.
4. No alcohol should be consumed for at least three days prior to the attunement.
5. Cut down on, or eliminate, your use of sweets. Do not eat any chocolate the day or your attunement.
6. If you smoke, try to cut back, and smoke as little as possible on the day of the attunement.
7. Meditate half an hour a day for at least a week prior to the attunement. If you are not in the habit of meditating, spend as much time as possible walking in nature. Or simply spend this time in silence.
8. Reduce or eliminate time watching television, listening to the radio, or reading the newspapers.
9. Pay more attention to subtle impressions, inner gut feelings, dreams and other sensations. Take time to reflect on their possible meaning.
10. Release all anger, fear, jealousy, hate, worry, and other negative emotions into the light. Create a sacred space within and all around you.
Remember that the Reiki attunement is an initiation into a sacred healing method that has been with us on Earth for many thousands of years. You are becoming initiated into a group of people who use this energy to heal not only themselves and others, but also to heal the Earth herself. As a member of this group you can expect to receive assistance from Reiki guides and other spiritual beings that are also working toward these ends. You are in blessed company!

Lightarian Reiki
LINEAGE: Jeanine Marie Jelm
ORIGINS: A Reiki system recently evolved by Jeanine Marie Jelm in 1997. It consists of 6 additional levels of Mastery beyond Usui Reiki Master and Karuna Reiki Master. (Usui and Karuna each provide one level Lightarian provides even higher levels of energy vibration.). Symbols are not used, and intent is essential. The system is involved in healing and in raising human consciousness and global awareness.
Lightarian Reiki has been brought forth from Ascended Master Buddha at this time to awaken humanity to six higher vibrational bands of Reiki energies that have long been unavailable to us. These six higher bands, which we call the Lightarian bands of the Reiki spectrum, have been adapted through our effective teaching and attuning process into just four training levels...with an emphasis on simplicity...no symbols are required. Each of these four levels has its own training, attunement and certification process.
This higher vibrational system of Reiki was channeled and developed by Jeannine Marie Jelm in mid-1997 based on her intuitive and direct communications with the energies of Ascended Master Buddha. This inspired work was subsequently refined, clarified and brought forth as Lightarian Reiki. During numerous channeling sessions, Ascended Master Buddha requested that Jeannine bring forth new levels of information about Reiki in order to clarify, demystify and expand Reiki for humanity at this time. He asked her to share this new information and these advanced healing energies with others and to spread this healing modality via a simple attunement process.
The emphasis in the Lightarian system of Reiki is on energetic purity, simplicity, ease of delivering the healing energies during a treatment and the creation of dramatic healing results. Regarding simplicity, the healing work and the training/attunement process for Lightarian Reiki are very direct and very simple. Based on Ascended Master Buddha's desire, no symbols are required for Lightarian Reiki. An important aspect of this work is the use of clear intentions when delivering the Lightarian Reiki healing energies to clients and while passing on attunements to students.
DEGREES:
It is taught in Reiki Master levels I - VI (attunements - I+II, III, IV, V+VI).
Prerequisites for becoming a Lightarian Reiki Master Teacher/Practitioner: You must be a Usui-based Reiki Master. Also, you must be a Karuna Reiki Master however, in lieu of Karuna, you can receive our simple Lightarian Buddhic Boost attunement as energetic preparation for getting started in the Lightarian Reiki Program.
The four levels of the Lightarian Reiki energies The six vibrational bands of Lightarian Reiki have been organized into just four training levels. These levels are called Lightarian Reiki I & II, III, IV and V & VI.
In Level I & II, the majority of the principles of Lightarian Reiki are taught and your initial Lightarian attunement with Ascended Master Buddha is delivered. This first training/attunement prepares you vibrationally to receive the attunements in the three higher levels.
The three advanced attunements are about progressively "stepping up" your energies into higher vibrational levels within the Reiki spectrum, connecting you into higher aspects of the Buddhic energies. No formal training is required for these levels. During the advanced attunements, an introduction and permanent connection is made with a different supportive energy to assist in creating an expansion of the healing work and to enhance the healing process. A comprehensive training manual is provided in advance for student self-study.
Lightarian I & II can be done in-person, by telephone (student to cover phone charges) or optionally by E-mail for international students, in lieu of training via telephone. The attunement for Level I & II is in the form of a simple guided meditation and can be delivered in-person, by telephone or via remote. A Master Teacher/Practitioner Certificate is provided upon completion of the training session and attunement.
Lightarian Reiki III you are "introduced" to Gaia, the Earth Mother, whose energies will be available as a "healing platform" for your personal healing process and your treatments with clients.
In Level IV , you receive the loving and powerful overlighting "umbrella-like" effects of special healing energies of the Godhead.
In Lightarian Reiki V & VI , another supportive healing energy is introduced, that of Ascended Master Sananda. He joins with Ascended Master Buddha, Gaia and the Godhead to create what we call the Divine Healing Chamber. This unique and powerful healing tool, the Divine Healing Chamber, is then available to you for your work with clients as well as for yourself.
Lightarian Reiki III, IV and V&VI - At each of these higher levels, a supplemental training manual is provided in advance for self-study. No formal training time is required. These levels involve only an attunement to be delivered remotely or by telephone. Again, a Master Teacher/Practitioner Certificate is provided upon completion of each attunement.
An approximate 30-day waiting period between receiving each of the four Lightarian Reiki training/attunements is recommended.
Lightarian Buddhic Boost - For Usui-based Reiki Masters who have not had Karuna Reiki training, your first step would be to receive the Buddhic Boost as a prerequisite for beginning Lightarian Reiki. The Boost is a simple attunement received remotely without any training involved and is designed to prepare you vibrationally for receiving the Lightarian Reiki I & II Training/Attunement. Approximately 30 days after receiving the Boost, you would be ready to receive Lightarian Reiki I & II. Please note that the "Buddhic Boost" attunement is only given to those who are committed to taking Lightarian Reiki I & II.

Johrei or Jo Reiki
LINEAGE: Usui - Hayashi - Takata - Ishikuro, Robertson, Jim Davis
This school of Reiki originally came from Raku Kei, it is believed that a man named Jim Davis began using the name Johrei to distinguish it from other branches and more closely associate it with its perceived roots.
ORIGIN: Johrei Reiki is a combination of Raku Kei Reiki and the Religion Johrei. The Johrei Fellowship does not recognise it as part of what they do and they have trademarked the name Johrei so that any unauthorised usage is forbidden. It is believed that several Reiki Masters who were trained in Raku Kei broke off and began teaching the system as Johrei Reiki. This system of Reiki is no longer being taught under the name Johrei Reiki.
DEGREES: 1 Mastership. The class takes you from first degree through Mastership in a weekend. 3 initiations. A specific sequence of hand positions covering the entire body are covered, as well as the Raku Breath (Breath of the Fire Dragon), 4 symbols, 3 are variations on the traditional symbols, 1 said to be the master symbol is very different causing an energy shift from Traditional Usui Reiki and an attunement method.
Following is a letter from the Johrei Fellowship regarding Johrei and Reiki
Dear Reiki Master/Sensei
For years we, the Johrei Fellowship, have had Reiki Masters and others with Reiki backgrounds express interest in Johrei. Many of the interested people actually become Johrei channels. However, generally speaking, very few people with Reiki backgrounds remain Johrei members for very long. We now believe that this happens because the goals of Johrei and the goals of Reiki are different.
The following is a general background of Johrei, Johrei Fellowship and a description of the relationship between Johrei and Reiki. Some points will be strongly stated to prevent any misunderstanding.
The International Johrei movement began in Japan by Mokichi Okada (aka Meishu-sama 1882-1955). God revealed to Okada that the creation of a Paradise on Earth, a world of truth, virtue and beauty would soon happen. Through revelations he learned that the cause of the three misfortunes of sickness, poverty and conflict were spiritual, and that the spiritual causes could gradually be eliminated by the channelling of JOHREI.
So the goal of the International organisation he created is the creation of a Paradise on Earth. Johrei is merely a tool to help in its creation. Although we have many miraculous "healings" through Johrei, our goal is not to heal. Becoming a member of the Johrei Fellowship means that person wants to serve (with no remuneration) in the creation of a Paradise on Earth by selflessly helping other people. Our goal is not the creation of healers.
Some people may believe that a strong relationship between Johrei and Reiki exists. In spite of parallels, we believe Johrei and Reiki are fundamentally different. The Johrei Community has a set of clearly written Teachings and practices generally follow the written Teachings. Through the years it appears that the Reiki community is constantly changing with different terminology and beliefs, depending on the teacher...
Years back, the Johrei Fellowship legally trademarked the word Johrei." In recent years, several Reiki Masters used the word "Johrei" as part of their Reiki presentation (e.g. "Johrei Reiki") without permission. One can understand our concern, especially when you think about the differences between Johrei and Reiki. It took much energy and money to stop the illegal usage. Although in each case letters are sent on a cordial and friendly basis, the majority of these people have reacted angrily and negatively. It is on the basis of our negative experiences that we ask Reiki Masters to seriously consider the reasons for your interest in Johrei Fellowship. We welcome and offer Johrei to everyone. If your interests are more than receiving Johrei, we encourage you to carefully consider the above.

Ascension Reiki
LINEAGE: channelled by Reiki Master Alan Harris.
This new system consists of nine symbols, channelled under the direction of the Ascended Masters, each symbol is linked to a specific master and works upon the energies of the chakras, thus partaking of a specific colour and function. The Ascended Masters - These are enlightened beings, some of whom have reached enlightenment after many physical incarnations. These beings of light work to aid mankind and help us towards ascension ie a state of expanded consciousness enabling us to exist in full awareness outside of a physical body.
ORIGINS: Whilst being initiated in Karuna Reiki Mastership Alan Harris sensed a symbol being placed into his crown chakra. Over the next few months, during periods of meditation, further symbols were given to him - his partner, Robert, was granted the insight that these symbols were communicated by the Ascended Masters:- Maitreya, Sananda, Lady Kwan Yin, Archangel Michael, Saint Germaine, Hilarion, Sanat Kumara, Lady Nada and Serapis. Under their instruction the present structure has now been formulated. Ascension Reiki is a powerful tool for healing but its main purpose is for expansion of consciousness and to accelerate the spiritual growth of mankind.
DEGREES: For students Second Degree and Higher.
Ascension Reiki - Level One
This consists of four attunements and learning the power symbol plus three further symbols for linking to and working with earth energies, revitalising and healing the physical body and sexual relationships, balancing chakras, facilitating past life regression and cleansing negative energies.
Ascension Reiki - Level Two
This consists of two attunements and learning four symbols for linking with the angelic realms and channelling, increasing psychic abilities and opening up to the higher self, increasing intellectual and spiritual focus and for transmitting energy through time and space.
Ascension Reiki - Master Level
This consists of one attunement and learning the Master symbol which enables you to attune others.
Alan Harris – Reiki Master
From childhood Alan has had a natural curiosity about the purpose of human existence. During his adolescence two out of body experiences had a profound effect upon his understanding of life. Since this period he has read and researched extensively metaphysical concepts and paranormal phenomena. His life was further changed when he was drawn to train in the Reiki system of healing.
Always gifted with insight Reiki has enabled Alan to strengthen his connection with higher spiritual realms and he has been working with a group of advanced discarnate beings known as the Ascended Masters. These beings have channelled through Alan a new system of Reiki called Ascension Reiki. The system consists of nine sacred symbols, each with a specific purpose, to facilitate physical and emotional healing, chakra balancing, assist contact with the higher realms, past life regression and spiritual growth.

Komyo Reiki
Hyakuten Inamoto's Reiki Energy Lineage:
1) USUI Mikao Sensei (1865-1926)
2) HAYASHI Chujiro Sensei (1879-1940)
3) Mrs YAMAGUCHI Chiyoko (1921-2003)
4) INAMOTO Hyakuten (1940 - )
Reverend Hyakuten Inamoto is a traditional Japanese Reiki Master and founder of Komyo Reiki who lives in Kyoto, Japan, he is also a Buddhist Monk independent and nonsectarian. Komyo Reiki has been developed by Hyakuten Inamoto based on traditional Japanese Reiki and Hyakuten was the first Japanese Reiki Master to teach in Australia. In 2003 Hyakuten trained a group of Reiki Masters in Australia in Komyo Reiki up to Shinpiden Teacher level. Hyakuten Sensei's form of Reiki puts emphasis on spiritual personal transformation or Satori (enlightenment) through Reiki practice. The most recent research into Mikao Usui's original teachings show that his focus was on developing the student's spiritual practise. Any healing that took place was a side effect to this spiritual development. This is the concept at the heart of Hyakuten Sensei's teachings.
Hyakuten Sensei studied Reiki with Chiyoko Yamaguchi (now deceased)- a Japanese lady, in her late 80's, who studied with Chujiro Hayashi, a student of Reiki's founder - Mikao Usui. Hyakuten is the fourth in line back to Usui Sensei.
Degrees Komyo Reiki - Shoden Reiki I, Chuden Reiki II, Okuden (Reiki 3A) & Shinpiden Reiki Master/Teacher.

Invisible Energy - Visible Results
Guest article by Annett Tate
I have a transparent kettle and a childlike fascination for watching the water boil. It never ceases to amaze me. First, there is an almost invisible stirring, a grumbling that grows to a roar and seems to come from deep, down inside somewhere.
And when enough of that invisible, inner energy has built up, it bursts forth into a crescendo of dancing, bouncy, lively bubbles. Like snow flakes, no bubble is the same, no pattern they form is alike and before you know it, the miniature spectacle is over and transformed into something completely different...
A cup of hot, delicious tea that warms my body and soul at this dark, cold time of year.
And so it is with everything we see and experience in life. For a moment something may seem important, spectacular and over-powering and then, each event fades and makes way for something else. Never ending change, transition, growth.
The energy underlying the bubbly dance of the hot water is like life - invisible and to me, totally incomprehensible. I won’t even begin to understand how something can travel through a plastic tube with wires in it and then be transformed into heat or sound or images which in turn can be changed into delicious food, musical delight or a mind boggling, life changing story on a screen.
I don’t question the method, nor do I need to understand the ‘why.’ I just know that it does and I’m grateful for what it gives me. Isn’t it funny, how most of us find the ‘techy’ kind of ignorance quite easy to accept, yet when it comes to the subtle energies within our own bodies, we deny what we can’t explain, we question and doubt and thus deprive ourselves of the enjoyment of the visible results, just because we can’t makes sense of what goes on beneath the surface.
This doesn’t mean that we should blindly accept anything and everything that we are presented with. After all, it’s curiosity, questioning, and probing that underlie all progress. What I’m suggesting is that we don’t succumb to the urge of ‘explaining away’ everything we can’t properly define and understand.
In our subtle energy courses, we share techniques that frequently enable participants to overcome fears, phobias and other issues within minutes. Sometimes, the effect is so fast and astonishing that the only way people seem to be able to deal with ‘losing’ something they have been suffering from for years, is to explain it away. They look for other reasons why the bubbles dance and in the process give away the power that is generated from deep within themselves.
We are so used to having to understand everything rationally, that we forget that the logical, conscious side of us can only take in about 1 billionth (yes, no typo here!) of reality at any given time. How could we ever expect to fully understand anything? How will we know that we aren’t just living one great big illusion? And the most important question of all... Does it really matter?
No, it doesn’t – the constant need to use our external senses to explain everything, prevents us from tapping into the vast resources of our unconscious mind. My suggestion is, lets follow Einstein’s example and open up to something bigger, better and higher than our limited logical capacity can conceive – and – as the saying goes, ‘go with the flow.’
If you allow yourself to be guided by the invisible energies within yourself, before you know it, you will feel the flow of Chi, Prana or Life Energy within you and understand what is good for you and what you need to heal and grow and achieve happiness and inner peace.
With a childlike sense of curiosity you can enjoy the visible dance of the bubbles whilst the invisible energy brings about the results.

Mari-El
LINEAGE : Usui - Hayashi - Takata - Ethel Lombardi....
ORIGIN : In 1983 like today, Reiki was going through a process of change. Masters of the system were deciding how Reiki was to be presented; some sided with Barbara Ray and some with Phyllis Furomoto. Ethel Lombardi, one of the masters initiated by Takata, rather than taking sides chose to develop her own system which she called Mari-El. Mari represents Mary, Mother of Christ, and El one of the names of God. It is said that Ethel only taught one person how to teach the system and that Mari-El is no longer being taught. An advanced student in Mari-El developed yet another system called Radiant Heart Therapy.
DEGREES: One degree with additional classes for advanced techniques. During the first class one attunement was given (very similar to Reiki attunement); and 3 symbols (different than Usui Reiki and called distance, power and Higher Self connection), the symbols were not secret. Also taught were hand positions, a method of doing distance treatment and a series of energy lines to be traced on the client's and practitioners body before doing a treatment (similar to Light Body Activation). In advanced classes, new techniques to use the energy and for clearing were presented. One technique that students of the system were taught was to walk this gentle energy into the Earth for healing and transmutation

Gakkai Society in Japan
It has been claimed that the Gakkai was formed by Mikao Usui when he started his school in Tokyo. Today the various leaders are listed back to Usui himself stating that he (Usui) was the first Chairman. Some doubt exists about whether Usui actually started the Gakkai and it seems possible that the second listed chairman, Juzaburo Ushida, may have created the society himself. This is also claimed by D King http://www.Japanese-Reiki.org
This was after Usui's death and probably when the memorial was erected. When Usui moved to Tokyo he opened a treatment centre and school, not a society or association. During the war the Gakkai moved its headquarters to different places perhaps due to the bombing of Japan. The Gakkai disbanded after the war. This was because it was a banned society during the occupation. It is not yet clear when the Society re-established following the war, however it may not have been until the 1950's.
It should be noted that several of the leaders were naval officers and some may have been active during the war. Ms. Koyama's husband was also a naval officer. This may have caused a problem during the occupation by the Allied Forces.
Ancestor List of Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai which operates today.
1st. Leader Mikao Usui (1865-1926)
2nd. Leader Juzaburo Ushida (Rear Admiral 1865-1935)
3rd. Leader Kan'ichi Taketomi (Rear Admiral 1878-1960)
4th President Yoshiharu Watanabe (School Teacher) died 1960)
There was for a very short period where Taketomi returned to office.
5th. Leader Houichi Wanami (Vice Admiral 1883-1975)
6th. Leader Kimiko Koyama (1906-1999) 7th. Leader Masaki Kondoh (Present Chairman and a University Professor)
It has been said that after the Gakkai HQ was destroyed by the air bombardments during WWII, each Gakkai Teacher continued to teach individually issuing their own certificates.
Mr. Hiroshi Doi (founder of Gendai Reiki Ho) was first taught by one of these teachers, he was not told it was called Reiki but Usui Teate.
According to Mr. Hiroshi Doi, traditional Gakkai meetings are usually started with chanting the Affirmations and sometimes singing of the Gyosei, Poetry of the Meiji Emperor, all part of the original Usui system. According to Arjava Petter - 'In Japan, the 'Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai' has been teaching his system ever since, but it did not spread widely.' It is believed that Gakkai Society is not interested in passing information to the rest of the world.
It has come to light that there is was an 85 year old woman named Chiyoko Yamaguchi (now deceased) who was a student of Chujiro Hayashi, she lives in Kyoto, Japan. She has only been teaching for the last couple of years. Her son is Tadao Yamaguchi and assists her in teaching and they have started the Jikkiden Reiki Association in Japan.
The following article is reprinted with the permission of Frank Arjava Petter (Sept.18/97) Reiki, Who is in Charge? by Frank Arjava Petter
Excerpts taken from http://threshold.ca/reiki
I have had the opportunity to live in Japan and teach Reiki classes here since 1993. With the help of my Japanese wife, Chetna and Shizuko Akimoto, a Japanese Reiki master I have had contact with several people who learned Reiki from Dr. Usui’s early students as well as members of Dr. Usui’s family and members of the Usui Shiki Ryoho of Tokyo. During these meetings we discussed the history of Reiki and how it is practiced in Japan. Through the benefit of these sources, I have learned many interesting things about Reiki that have not been known in the West.
For many years we all have been looking at Reiki history from a Western point of view. This story has had some limitations and because of cultural and language barriers between Japan and the West not many of the ideas in the Western story were able to be verified or explored. The life of Dr Usui or Usui Sensei as he is called by his followers in Japan was one clouded in mists of a mystical character. Because of this, some misinformation about Usui Sensei and his life has developed. Recently the question of who the true successor of Usui Sensi is has come up again, and for that reason I would like to make things clear once and for all.
Since Usui Sensei died March 9th 1926, the Usui Shiki Ryoho, which he founded and presided over has had five sequential presidents - the true and only successors of Mikao Usui. The first successor was Mr Juzaboro Ushida, who took over the responsibilities after Usui Sensei’s death. The second successor was Mr Kan’Ichi Taketomi, the third Mr Yoshiharu Watanabe, the fourth Mr Hoichi Wanami, and fifth Ms Kimiko Koyama is the present successor (at the time of the publication of Reiki Fire – since then she has passed over) – sixth successor is Masaki Kondoh.
The titles "Grandmaster" or "Lineage Bearer" were not and are not in use in the Usui Shiki Ryoho or Usui Kai as it is now called. Consequently this title was never passed on to Mr Chujiro Hayashi as is currently believed in the west. The only successor to Usui Sensei was Mr Ushida in 1926. Mr. Hayashi was one of many respected disciples of Usui-Sensi, but not more and not less than that. In the old days disciples like Mr. Hayashi who were granted the teacher status by the president often had their own disciples. This is why there are so many different Reiki streams flowing all over Japan. However there is no question about Ms Kimiko Koyama’s leadership today.
The reason that the truth about the real successor of Usui-Sensei never came to the light in the West is rather simple. Years ago we heard on the phone from a Usui Kai member that they were not interested in "Reiki that comes from a foreign country". This attitude explains why the record was never officially set straight. Japanese people in general are very accepting, much more than so Westerners. When it rains it rains and when the sun shines, the sun shines. Regarding things that are happening abroad the Japanese-interest is usually nil. This goes for environmental destruction, international wars and politics and of course, Reiki and the untruths that are circulated about it. So much abuse has been perpetrated in the name of Reiki, that it is hardly surprising that the Japanese Usui Kai keeps its knowledge to itself. They just don’t want to be involved.
However, I am neither Japanese nor of passive character and I have a passion for the truth. That is why I would like to leave the above information with all of you. Reiki is pure energy no matter what label we put on it. There is neither a right nor a wrong Reiki. Energy does not have moral attributes and can never be owned by anyone. It is our human birthright and therefore free as the wind.
In this spirit of love, light and oneness I wish you all the best on your path to the light, from Japan with love.Reiki In Japan website: http://www.reiki.org.pl/

Feathering Spiritual Slime
After a healing it is vital that the healer clears the healing room of any residual negative energy left from the healing. During a healing the healer may remove blockages from the clients etheric or physical body which have hindered the natural flow of energy. These blockages should not be present in the body and therefore should be removed. If the client has an illness that has manifested on the physical level there will be energy given off that may be heavy sticky or negative we call it 'Spiritual Slime'.
This tends to stick not only to the healer but must also be removed from the client's aura and the healing area itself. During the healing it is not uncommon for the healer to become aware of this negative energy clinging to their hands and arms and they may even have to stop and clean it off with their other hand or a feather. It may feel uncomfortable and perhaps may make the healer ache a little. This is why it is absolutely vital for the healer to wash their hands right up to their elbows after a healing. They must make sure that they clean off this energy so that it does not remain in their aura and create problems with their own personal energy flows.
At times it may be necessary to have a shower to cleanse your auric field if the healing has brought up a lot of negative energy or you have done many healings in one day. If you have done several healings there tends to be a build up which needs to be cleansed and cleared both from the healing area and your own energy field. Of course 'Oceanic Cleansing' or a dip in the sea is a powerful way to cleanse yourself. The ocean has a powerful energy all of its own and is a magnificent way to wash away any unwanted energy that you are carrying. So too is a 'Bath in the Sun' a stroll in the rays of Father Sun can also burn off negative energy. We all know how good we feel when the sun smiles in spring and how we can often feel a bit down and depressed in winter. So these two are a magnificent way to remove negative energy build up in your auric field.
This cleansing must be thorough otherwise pockets of negative energy will remain and eventually create unpleasant vibrations. This cleansing process is very important in making sure that you do not take on the negativity of others their problems, their heartaches or their illnesses. To remove the 'Slime' from the clients aura there are several methods which you can employ depending on which you prefer. To make sure that you remove unpleasant energy which your client has released from their physical body into their auric field you may 'Feather' them.
This means that you take a feather usually an eagle feather although it can be any feather large enough and sweep it through their aura. Some healers I know have also used swan or geese feathers. The feather gathers the unwanted energy and it can then be flicked away from the body. Healers using shamanic healing energy use this method and also use the feather for other related aspects of healing. The hands may also be used for the same thing. Smudging is another method to help cleanse the aura and healing area of unwanted energy.
This requires the healer to burn sacred herbs such as white sage, lavender, rosemary, perhaps even eucalyptus, and then blow out the flame and use the smoke to cleanse. A small bowl often ceramic in nature although any vessel which is fire proof and doesn't get too hot will do is used in order to avoid any cinders escaping. Needless to say you do not want to burn the client! The healer simply wafts the smoke into the client's aura using the hand or the feather.
Some healers especially those who follow the shaman way, like to smudge their client both before and after a healing. This means negative energy that the client comes in with is immediately removed leaving the auric field clean without going into a healing with a build up already present. For the same effect some healers like to feather their clients before and after. The more you work with the healing energy, the more you will become aware of its differing nature. Just as you walk into a room of people and sense that you can cut the air with a knife you will sense if a person is carrying negative energy about their person or if there is negative energy in an empty room. You will feel it clinging to the walls and in corners. To cleanse the healing area before the start of your healing and afterwards, you may use several methods. Make sure that you air the room thoroughly by opening the doors and windows.
Allow the breeze to blow through. Light a white candle to burn up unwanted energy and always have a candle burning during a healing for the same reason. A white candle will help burn off negative energy during the healing and therefore helps to make the cleansing afterwards easier.
Crystals in a healing area also help to soak up unwanted energy. Clear quartz, rose quartz, agate etc. will all do the same job and it is vitally important that you remember to cleanse your crystals thoroughly at least once a week. You can do this several ways.
If you have reiki you may reiki the crystal until you feel that it is clean. Giving your crystals a salt bath using preferably sea salt, or adding eucalyptus oil which is a natural disinfectant to the water is another method.
Other healers like to give them a 'Bath' in beach sand. Yet another method is to put your crystals outside at night during the full moon for her cleansing moon rays, or burying them in Mother Earth for a few days to clean them. Putting on some boppy music up loud if that is your preference helps to blow away the cobwebs spiritually speaking that is!
The loud vibrations from your favorite music creates positive energy which fills the room to the corners Some healers like to place plants in a healing area to suck up unwanted energy. I would be very protective of living creatures both plant and animal life. If using plants they must be removed and put outside for a good breeze and cleansing water bath.
Plants and animals can be attuned to Reiki energy and this gives them a certain amount of protection but they must also be cleansed properly just as we have a bath or cleansing method for us the healer so must they be cleansed or you run the risk of them becoming unwell. This is something that other healers may not agree with but in my experience I have found this to be true. It is also important to wipe the healing table over between healings and to change pillow cases and the sheet if you use one. So in conclusion remember that cleansing of the healing area and you, the healer, is just as vital as cleansing the aura of your client. Therefore there will be no transference of negative energy from one client to another or client to the healer or plant or animal. Just as modern medicine disinfects on the physical level so we must disinfect and clean on the spiritual or etheric level. It is just as important!

A (sharp) look at Reiki symbols
Like many "non-traditional" Reiki practitioners, I have received teaching about the Reiki symbols during my level 2. I have read so-called Reiki guru Diane Stein’s book, and I have researched the symbols more online. It isn’t until I travelled to Japan that I realized the appalling, unforgivable absurdities spouted by Western practitioners concerning Reiki in general and the Reiki symbols in particular. In their ignorance and/or search for sensationalism they have been spreading falsehoods. It is upon realizing that one of the symbols was written in Japanese characters that I decided to delve into their origins and find out the truth about them.
First, let us get one thing straight. Reiki has nothing to do with Tibet and never has. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either misinformed or a crook trying to use the mystical aura of Tibet to sell the idea to you. The Reiki system was born in Japan, invented by Dr. Usui. Certainly, Dr. Usui referred to older things to put his methodology together. The hands-on method had already been used by Hindus, Jesus Christ, Aborigines and others. The energy involved, the Ki, was and still is the root of the entire body of Chinese medicine, where it is known as chi. He himself was a Tendai Buddhist and the symbolic concepts he introduced as healing tools were sacred Buddhist notions. But Usui did invent Reiki, and to pretend it has older its origin amounts to claiming St Peter’s in Rome was built by the Romans.
I keep the following research updated to get as close as possible to the truth (the latest correction was in March 04). It is based my research on a basic knowledge of Japanese writing, books about sacred Eastern writing, websites that were more seriously documented than others, and even a talk with a Tibetan Lama with whom I discussed the Hrih mentioned below. I now wish I had enquired about hands-on healing methods in Tibet. Educated corrections will be appreciated if found necessary.
First, let us start with a general discussion on the use of symbols in Reiki, then we’ll have a look at each symbol individually.
Things to know about symbols: myth vs. reality
Usefulness of the symbols
Much yoopla is made of the Reiki symbols. Everyone wants to learn them; they are so exotic and exciting to use. It adds a little spice to the mix. That is all very well, but let us be strictly down-to-earth.
Symbols are merely a kind of trigger. They do not carry power in themselves. Some people believe that a much-used symbol is very powerful because using it is like tapping into a reservoir of all the power invested in them. I'm not saying this isn't true, but even if it is, it hardly applies to the case we are interested in. Reiki is too new and it seems no two practitioners, at least in the West, are able to remember the symbols in the same way.
So, then, symbols are nothing more than triggers, and they are useful because they help train the mind in such a way as to instantly trigger a certain function in a reflex, and therefore unconscious (or subconscious?) way. This way, instead of having to focus on doing this or that, the tracing of the symbol can get it going instantly while you can concentrate on something else. Pavlov’s experiment is too well-known for any elaboration to be necessary.
This kind of trigger does not have to be a symbol. It can be a sound, a gesture, a formula, an image, etc. Just because Dr. Usui, in the tradition of sacred writing characteristic to his Asian origins, chose calligraphied symbols, doesn’t mean you have to slavishly use them. Naturally, if you don’t use them, you’re not practicing Reiki since they are an integral part of it, but who says you have to? I'm not crazy about this need to insist that "I DO practice Reiki, just my personal version of it". Far better to be honest with oneself and stand for one's methods without needing to align them with established currents.
Tracing them accurately
That's what you least need to worry about. Most of the symbols that are being handed down in the Western world, some of which were published by Diane Stein for the first time, are themselves total distortions of the original symbols. Strictly speaking, they have as much to do with Reiki as a dollar-store dreamcatcher has to do with Plain Indians. The only value of a symbol resides in its efficiency as a trigger. Whether you use these, the originals, symbols you further modify yourself, symbols you make up or symbols you bring in from other traditions, you will not lose efficiency. If you forget how to draw a symbol in the middle of a working, you can still fly on intent, which is all you actually need anyway. Energy flows where your intent is. Everything else is just there to help until the day you can control your energy as naturally as you can move an arm.
Tracing them in order
Everything I read about Reiki, written down by Western practitioners, insisted on the fact that you MUST draw the symbols with the correct order of strokes. This is apparently because the Japanese attach a great importance to stroke order, and it betrays a very superficial understanding of this concern by the westerners who imported Reiki. Let me tell you something about Japanese writing, that none of these healers have figured out. In Japan it is very important to write characters with the correct order and direction of strokes, for the simple reason that if you write them fast and your brush or pen does not leave the paper between strokes, the extra "linking" strokes thus created can make the character totally illegible if they are not disciplined into a unique, consistent pattern. In other words, the stroke order is only important for legibility purposes, which is not something we need to worry about. If using an order of your own helps you memorize them, then by all means use your own order.
However what is important, I think, is that you stick to a single order once you've settled on it, or else your trigger will be fuzzy.
Single symbol vs sets
The Reiki symbols are each used for a specific function. That does not mean each of them has a holy and end-all connection to this function. It is simply that breaking down Reiki needs into different symbols makes each trigger sharper and more powerful. This is true of all symbols, and it is why it's a good idea to use a set of symbols rather than a single one. As an illustration, here are a few functions I can think of when it comes to a treatment:
. Starting the ki flow
. Boosting the power
. Giving healing
. Removing pain
. Giving emotional healing
. "Opening a gate", or triggering distance healing
. Aggressive cleansing for stubborn or clinging "ick"
. Attunements
This is a somewhat extreme breaking down; most of the above can be paired in less specific groups. But if I use the same symbol for say boosting the power and opening the gate, how am I supposed to focus properly and be instantly triggered in the exact function I want? Imagine if the control-C command had the double function to both copy and cut and you had to manually specify which every time. Distracting!
The Reiki symbols
Traditionally we are taught 4 symbols. Because they were transmitted orally for a long time, and this mostly within an audience that had no understanding of the original forms (which were either words in Japanese script, or single characters in Siddham script), they got transformed almost beyond recognition. Along the way, mysterious new forms appeared. The latter may have been designed by the founder of Reiki himself, or they could have been introduced by later students in efforts to give a visually evocative shape for each function. What is certain is (and I don't care what is said by Reiki practitioners who transmit info through the grapevine without thinking of questioning it): they are not Tibetan. The symbols have Japanese names and two of them are very obviously written in Japanese Kanji -- the Chinese script. Tibetan spirituality using Chinese characters? I don't think so. That does not make the symbols any less good -- it is just ridiculous to give them a background they don't have, because then they become dependent on that background. The hunger of some people for glamour and mystery has polluted more than one serious discipline.
Past the first barrier of superficial knowledge you reach an inner skin of semi-serious, but still mislead information: I refer here to those who maintain that the shirushi were derived from symbols used by Kurama-Kokyo Buddhist sect to refer to their deities. This article previously reflected this belief but now stands corrected: see this site to find out why the symbols have nothing to do with the Kurama-Kokyo.
The likely scenario is this: as a Buddhist, Usui sensei had knowledge of many sacred symbols, or shuji before he retired to Kurama Yama. Shuji is the Japanese name of the "seed characters" written in the Siddham for of the Sanskrit script, which are used as attributes for deities. Usui's visionary experience on the mountain filled him with a new, deeper understanding for their significance. Fromt here he went to foudn Reiki, which he intended as a spiritual-philosophical system "for the improvement of body and soul". Self-healing was but a small part of this, but to improve its efficiency he found it fit to intoduce four "keys" for focusing the intent: these he chose among his system, and they have been handed down as "the four symbols of Reiki" ever since.
For every symbol I will give the "traditional" form, the "non-traditional" form, the known variations and one of the possiblemeanings of the Japanese names that I pieced together (you may be dismayed to hear that back in Japan, they are not referred to by the Japanese name we use, but by number, and the Kanji that might have been at their origin fell into oblivion, so that is something we may never find out). Many practitioners, traditional and modern, feel the symbols must not be disclosed to the unitiated. While I agree they should not be disrespected and used frivolously, which would indeed weaken them, I am against pointless secrecy, so no, I have no qualms publishing a study of them.
I have removed all references to Raku from this article, as it was introduced by Arthur Robertson and Iris Ishikiru in the 80s, as part of the Raku Kei system which he claimed to have discovered in Tibet (thank you Rei for the info).
Choku-rei
The Power Symbol, referred to in Japan as "Symbol 1"
Possible origin:
Choku-rei's origins are obscure. However, a meaning of the words “choku rei” is "to fix miraculously" (choku=to fix, rei=miracle), which I believe to be the original intention, so it may have been written in Japanese as shown in this diagram. James Deacon <a href="http://www.geocities.com/fascin8or/reiki_symbolsP.html"> mentions the theory that it might be a stylized version of the actual 'choku' kanji*. No matter where the shape comes from, it is very evocative and helpful for the use of the symbol.
Use:
Choku-Rei is used to increase the power and flow of the Ki, or build up power within the healer or on the treated spot while giving a healing. It helps the ki gather in the healer's center where it is stored as if in a battery, ready to use.
Seiheki
The Emotional Healing Symbol, referred to in Japan as "Symbol 2"
Origins:
Seiheki is still recognizable as the Hrih, the Siddham seed character of Amida Butsu, also known as Amida Nyorai, the Buddha said "of Infinite Light and Life", known for being always there for anyone who calls onto him with a sincere heart. In a Tibetan ceremony, we used the Hrih to "give birth" to the mantra Om Mani Padme Hung. The Japanese name has nothing to do with the original one, and if it is a Japanese Buddhist word I don't know. The word "seiheki" however means "one's natural disposition, propensity, mental habit" and so I have included the characters for this word, in case there is indeed a connection.
Use:
As befits the Buddha whom this symbol represents, it is one used for emotional healing. It is also known as the "Love" symbol. The original concept is naturally the invokation of Amida Nyorai, and this is likely why the word has spread that it means "God and man coming together".
Hon Sha Ze Shô Nen
The Distance Symbol, referred to in Japan as "Symbol 3"
Origins:
Hon Sha Ze Shô Nen has kept its original form in Japanese script almost intact. Its name is actually meant to be a mantra that helps one connect with the symbol's energy, and means "Right consciousness is the root for everything", or better yet, "Correct thought is the essence of being". Some say it means "the higher being in me reaches out to the higher being in you", but that's an expression of its function rather than a translation. I am giving the full sentence as it would be written; the symbol is a simplified version of it, some of the characters being superimposed and a few lines dropped. There is more than one version of the simplified symbol, and I'm giving those I have encountered.
Uses:
Although "The higher being in me reaches out to the higher being in you" and "No past, no present, no future" are erroneous translations of Hon Sha Ze Shô Nen, they accurately describe what it is used for. This is the symbol to cancel distance in space and time, used for distance healing.
Dai Kô Myo
The Master Symbol
Origin:
Dai Kô Myo is the most evident symbol and I was horrified to see that Diane Stein presented erroneous "original" versions without ever bothering to check her sources. the Kanji in Dai Kô Myo respectively mean "big", "light", and "shining", and put together like this convey the meaning of "Great illuminating light".
The non-traditional version, which is the one I was taught, is a mystery -- I have no idea where it came from. However it presents the advantage of being quite evocative. When I look at it I get the image of two cupped hands pulling pain away from someone and towards oneself. This time the spiral goes from the center out, and so does the second spiral stroke, a good evocation of this motion.
Uses:
Dai Kô Myo is the healing symbol, the one that takes away pain or disease. It combines the power of the previous three symbols on a more subtle level, and it is used by Reiki Masters for attunements.
As a conclusion
I hope I have, although not brought out the final truth about the symbols, at least raised enough questions for practitioners to think twice about what they are told. Reiki does not need to come from Tibet to be "true", and the healing method you use does not have to be Reiki to be efficient. However, if you try to convince yourself of either when it’s simply not true, you are discrediting all the above and yourself included. This is why I insist so much on looking for the basic truth in the matter.

it has also been said that the choku rei is meant to represent a coiled snake with it's head raised, and because of this some have sought to "jump cultures" and link it to the Kundalini Serpent of Indian tradition.
However, I've just been discussing the symbol with someone who is quite well-versed in Shinto/Buddhist Studies. He tends to agree that it could well be a representation of a coiled snake
He told me that according to some theories, associated with honji suijaku ( honji suijaku is a doctrine which seeks to equate the Kami Spirit-Beings of Shinto with Buddhist Deities, enabled the followers of Shinto and Buddhism to legitimately venerate the each other's Divine Beings as alternative manifestations of their own.) - any how, according to some honji suijaku theories, the real forms of kami are actually snakes..." back

These can be used by anyone whether they are familar with Reiki or not. They are used to help release feelings, thoughts, attachments, emotions ( etc) that may be burdening you or are full of negativity. When we are weighted down with negative feelings it is that much harder for us to proceed forward in our lives.
You will benefit the most if you can set aside 15 minutes a day for this. That is 3 times in your day for 5 minute increments.
List all the people you feel you need to release and work on them until you no longer feel the need. Examples are ( but not limited to) :
Family members ( mom , dad, siblings, etc)
Job related people ( bosses, coworkers etc)
Lovers ( current or past)
Spouses
Yourself ( in this case you are letting go of negativity or bad feelings that is attached to yourself)This is said to work best id you reapeat all 3 parts of the affirmation entirely.
Part 1
(Insert person's name and repeat 3 times). I fully and freely release you. I loose you and let you go. I let go and let the Divine do It's perfect work in, through and as you. You are free, and I am free, as all is cleared up between us now and forever.
Part 2
(Insert person's name and repeat 3 times), you fulll and freely release me. You loose me and let me go. You let go and let the Divine do It's perfect work in, through and as me. You are free, and I am free, adn all is cleared between us now and forever.
Part 3
(Insert your name and repeat 3 times), I fully and freely release you. I loose you and let you go. I let go and let the Divine do It's perfect work in, through and as you. You are free, and I am free, as all is cleared up between us now and forever.
Mind you that you can say God or Goddess or whoever you connect most with in lieu of saying "The Divine" if you so wish.

These are affirmations that I believe can be used by anyone whether they are familiar with Reiki or not. Remember that these are example affirmations and you can easily come up with your own.
Guidelines for affirmations:
Always use a positive, not a negative
Stay in the present tense
Use first person wording.
Repeat the affirmation 3 times.For Health :
My being is always glowing with radiant health.
I am as whole, healthy, and free as God (Goddess, The Divine) created me to be
I am filled with ecstatic life force!
My natural state of being in health, and I am in perfect health now
For Addictions:
I lean an alcohol ( drug, tobacco, etc) free life
For the start of the Day:
Divine intelligence guides my thought, words and actions this day
This is a good day. I give thanks for this day and everything in it.
For Connection with the Divine Source :
I am a clear and perfect channel for Divine Love and Truth
I am always connected to the Divine Source
For Protection :
I am surrounded by the White Light of Health, Peace, Prosperity, and Love - physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual well being.
No Harm can enter in --Divine Right Order
For Money
Every dollar I spend comes back to me multiplied.
The more I am willing to prosper others, the more they are willing to prosper me.
Money is trying to come to me, and if I open myself, it will happen.
I now have a success and a surplus of consciousness with money.
I am one with an abundance of money.
My connection with the Divine Source is adequate enough to yield me personal fortune.
Again these can be rewritten, reworded or you can just make up your own.
As a side note just because I posted them all here does not necessary agree with them. I am still kind of iffy on the money affirmations ( simply because so many people tend to lean towards the thinking that if they think positively about something then the something will just automatically happen with no work involved).

Medicine Reiki™
![[image]](http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/EvilKinK/image2-125.jpg)
A sacred blending of American Indian Medicine and Reiki.
With the power to change your life.
Prayer Ties
Small Prayer Ties are bundles of tobacco (or cornmeal) wrapped in print and strung together on a single string. Prayers of petition are said continually while creating the ties. In this case, prayers to receive the Hoop Reiki blessings or distant healing and offering Creator your reasons for seeking these blessings. After creating the Prayer Ties, ceremonially offer them to Creator by one of the traditional means (fire, air, water, earth). Tradition has it that as they are returned to Creator they carry your prayers and yearnings.
To make small tobacco ties, obtain print in whatever traditional colour and amounts sing to you, tobacco (or cornmeal) and a ball of string (thread for 2 inch ties, string for larger sizes) made of natural materials.
![[image]](http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/EvilKinK/printtobaccostring.jpg)
![[image]](http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/EvilKinK/red.jpg)
Cut the print into squares about 2 inches (50mm) on a side (NB: If you are new to making Prayer Ties, I suggest beginning with 4 inch squares rather than 2 inch squares. The larger size is somewhat easier to handle.).
Into each square place a small ball of tobacco, then gather the corners and twist. Secure the bundle by wrapping the string around it. Use loops rather than knots to secure each bundle.
![[image]](http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/EvilKinK/patchwithtobacco.jpg)
![[image]](http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/EvilKinK/prayerties.jpg)
Add the next bundle 3" (75mm) to 4" (100mm) from the previous bundle (6" to 8" for 4" squares). Smudge the entire string of tobacco ties when done. The offering is now ready to be given to Creator.
Making Prayer Ties is not about precision or doing it right. If you are worried about making mistakes, you are defeating the purpose of making the ties in the first place.
So, 2 inches means somewhere around 1 and a half and two and half inches; square means roughly square. Three or four inches apart means about that. After all, often there are no scissors or rulers in the bush.
The task is not to create a thing of beauty, although that might happen. The task is to create a sacred object, a string of Prayer Ties, which contains your desires and prayers. Thus it is being mindful of your prayers which is important, not precision or perfection.

Healing Hands of Light by Dana Burns
A gentle soul softly lies one hand and then another upon another who's head is fighting the pain of a roaring migraine. Is there any hope for this individual? Yes, because the gentle soul is opening up herself to the healing energies from our Divine Source as well as the soul struggling to fight back the tears rolling down her cheeks. The healer has become a vessel in which the pure love and light from above has come to pass through her body and out from her hands into the stricken soul. Moments pass by as the migraine-inflicted woman begins to feel a warm heat coming from the gentle soul's hands and her body begins to relax from the Divine healing coming into her body. Soon the sensitivity to light and noise become less as well as the blinding pain weakens from the corrective flow surging strategically within her body. As each minute passes the woman begins to feel more and more relaxed and her symptoms disappear as she opens her eyes to those of the healer holding her hands carefully along the sides of her temple. No more is she hiding behind dark curtains, afraid of the sunlight causing her stomach to churn and eventually cause her to retreat to the bathroom toilet. Again, she can listen to her favorite music on the radio or the laughter created by children playing in a pile of fallen leaves. A miracle? Yes, this is the miracle of Reiki!
But what is Reiki? Reiki, pronounced "ray-key", is a technique discovered in the early 1900's by Dr. Mikao Usui. It can be described as a way to reduce stress and increase relaxation and energy in bringing the body back to balance in mind, body and spirit. "Rei" means universal and "Ki" means life energy, so together Reiki can be thought of as "Universal Life Energy".
By opening up to the Divine Source and asking to tune into these healing energies all around us in all living things, we can transmute dark into light. A person attuned to Reiki Healing does so only with the intention that it be for the "Highest Good" or else no transmutation shall take place. Permission given by the recipient allows the Healer to connect with the Divine Source and like a pitcher of water pouring water into a glass, the Healer directs where the "Universal Life Energy" shall pass to. This can be done by placing hands on an area where pain exists or sending it over great distances. A Healer need not know exactly where the pain thrives as Reiki is an intelligent force that will seek the area most in need of healing. Once inside the human body and aura the recipient then becomes the healer in unconsciously sending the pure love and light where its path needs to go.
Reiki has been proven to aid causes of all types, deadly and non, to bring back the body, mind and spirit to a place of balance. When stress or other afflictions break down the body's resistance to its threat, disease can manifest itself in many forms and Reiki is one way it can be eliminated. No longer are patients hooked on bottle after bottle of medications or left to lead a life of shortcomings due to the body's restrictions.
While Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment, it can work with it to lessen and possibly eliminate the damaging long-term effects it can have and render the patient in more control of his/her life.
Open to the wonderful healing energy within yourself that is at your fingertips!

What is Reiki?
Reiki is an attument that once effected allows the initiate access
to the 7th Level of Existence.
What are the rules of Reiki?
Reiki has no Rules or Targets it only has outcomes of health,
wellbeing and peace of mind.
Reiki is not what Spiritual Healing is, but the gifts of
Spirituality do work within Reiki, such as Clairsentience, Audio and
Visual. When Usui meditated on the mountain in Japan 100 years ago
he was shown 4 symbols and told how to use them and we must assume
that the energy that showed him those symbols then caused him to be
attuned. Over the centuries there have been many reports of contact
with a higher energy.
What is meant by Attunement?
The attunement process is achieved by the application of a formula
constructed from those 4 symbols and then applied to a persons
Chakras; the increase in the vibration of those selected Chakras
creates the feeling wellbeing and peace of mind within that client,
in other words a feeling of openness.
How many of these attunements are required,
There are only 3 levels of Attunement for Reiki.
Level 1 requires 4 Attunements to selected Chakras and to then be
sealed so that permanency of the vibrations is achieved.
Level 2 requires 2 Attunements, again to selected Chakras and again
it is necessary to seal the Attunement,
At the Master level 1 Attunement to selected Chakras and sealed.
If the Attunements have been all performed properly that person is
for the rest of their lives permanently connected and able to access
the 7th Level of Existence.
Is it possible to detect if an Attunement is faulty?
Yes. When the
correct questions are asked, a person tested using Kinesiology will
indicate a faulty Attunement, again using the correct questions and
Dowsing or Pendulums are used, quite accurate answers are received,
there is a third way, but I will leave that to a later date.
Unfortunately it is hard to convince people that after spending so
much time and effort and not in the least money that there are many,
many bad Attunements being done. Many also jump to defend the lovely
person who they call Master without being within their own reality.
They are more times than not ignorant of the run on effect of
spiritual healing and how that has been affected by the imbalance of
the persons Chakras. Yes, there is an initial effect similar to a
feeling of Wellbeing and peace of mind but be assured it does drop
of over time. Ever encountered any person who suggested that their
Reiki just does not seem to be there?
As for as how to distribute the By-Product of your Reiki Attunement.?
I don't insist that every client is treated by the `White Coat'
Brigade or that the `Stinky Sticks' be mandatory, be it is more
sufficient that hands are placed on the subject, remember Reiki has
no Rules or Targets.
Progression through the levels.
No Client being Attuned should be allowed to progress faster than
their health and wellbeing allows it, in more simple terms, don't
progress a person who has any sickness either that be mental or
physical, it does them no good, they will suffer, they have to be
clean before the next level.
A lot of dogma has been brought across into Reiki by Spiritual
Healers; these persons who may have good intent never even
understood their own Spiritual Gifts before they imposed on the
unsuspecting Reiki insinuate.
So to sum up
Spiritual gifts, you are born with them, they cannot be taught, you
either have them or not.
[ 1 Corinthians 12 Spiritual Gifts ]
Reiki is an Attunement and can be done to anybody.
Reiki has not rules or targets, just outcomes. Most Spiritual
connected people can only, in the main connect to the 4th or 5th
level of Existence.
Reiki, properly Attuned access's the 7th level of Existence. Reiki
is mainly for improving self; you cannot turn it on or off, the
connection is active for the rest of this lifetime.
Reiki is not Ancient, It never can out of Tibet, it is an
intervention by God to heal this Planet and those that exist upon it.
Forget the rubbish, Reiki is simple.
As I have said before my manual is only of 2 pages, the rest is
experience.
Live with it, get to love it, properly done it is for life. Just
give it time.

Arranging Your Reiki Share
From Phylameana lila Desy,Your Guide to Holistic Healing.
Preparations for Hosting a Reiki Share
A Reiki Share is a gathering of Reiki practitioners who congregate for a combination social/healing session. A share can last anywhere from 3 to 4 hours or be an all day event. It depends on who is hosting the share and how many people are in attendance on how long a share lasts.
The primary purpose of having a "share" is for practitioners to participate in giving and receiving Reiki within an atmosphere of friendship and love. Participating in a share is also a beneficial way of honoring one another as healers.
Reiki Shares are also commonly referred to as Reiki CirclesA Reiki share consists of many healing hands on one person at a time. One person lays on a table while the participating practitioners gather around that person, laying their hands upon him/her facilitating a massive flow of Reiki energies. Group energies are often very strong and can be more penetrating than individual sessions. This type of Reiki treatment is a wonderful and often profound experience!
Preparations for Hosting a Reiki Share:
Choose Time Of Day To Host Your Share
morning, afternoon, evening, or all day.
Set A Date / Invite Your Guests
Invite your guests at least one week prior to your share date. This allows them time to fit the share into their personal schedules. Ask each guest to bring one or two pillows. If you are having a larger group (more than 8) you may need to ask someone to bring along an extra portable massage table so you can have two tables set up for treatments.
Refreshments
It is a good idea to have some simple yet healthy foods and drinks on hand for everyone to snack on between sessions. Example: Fresh or dried fruits, nuts, bran muffins, fruit juices, and herbal teas. At the very least have plenty of water on hand. Most healers know the importance of drinking water so it is likely everyone will come with their own bottled water anyway, but just in case have some available. If you are having an all day session you may choose to have a potluck luncheon. Instruct each guest to bring a dish along to the share. Break for a rejuevenating lunch midday.
Set the Mood
It is important that you have a space dedicated to healing to host your share in. I recommend clearing the space beforehand with a ritual sage smudging. After clearing this space feel free to set up the room to meet your personal preferences. Select soothing sounds and scents using candlelight or dim lights, gentle music selections, gurgling water fountains, etc. You may choose to turn off the ringer to your telephone after everyone has arrived so the share will not be disturbed unnecessarily.
Speak Your Rules
There are no set rules for Reiki shares, but it is up to the host to set the pace and flow of the session. To help your share to go smoothly giving some instruction is appropriate. In order for everyone to have their turn on the table it is good to count heads and divide the table time accordingly. For example: If you have eight people and your share is set for three hours then you would likely set twenty minutes table time per person. This allows a few minutes between sessions for bathroom breaks. Assign someone to be the the clock watcher. In my shares I normally designate the person sitting at the head placement of the person receiving the Reiki to track the time. I also like to allow one guest to opt out of one session during the session rotations. This allows each person in turn a chance to sip on a cup of tea and relax outside of the circle. http://healing.about.com/od/reiki/a/reikishare.htm

How To Prepare For A Reiki Attunement
From Phylameana lila Desy,Your Guide to Holistic Healing.
A Reiki attunement is an initiation to open up crown, heart, and palm chakras to allow Reiki energies to flow through. A period of purification before the attunement is suggested to aid this process. Difficulty: Average
Time Required: varies
Here's How:
Take special care in selecting your Reiki instructor. Schedule your class date at least one week in advance.
Eliminate (or reduce) intake of meat, fowl, or fish from your diet 3 days prior to your class date.
You may choose a water or juice fast for 1 to 3 days prior to the attunement.
Use no alcohol for at least 3 days prior to the attunement.
If you are on any type of medication.. continue to take it as prescribed prior to and on the day of attunement.
Smokers should take care to smoke as little as possible for the day prior to the class date and on the day of the attunement.
Avoid outside stimulation (tv, radio, computers, newspapers).
Find moments (hours) of solitude. Meditation and spending time with nature (walks, sitting beside streams, etc.)
Be gentle with yourself. Don't tackle any tasks that will deplete your energies.
Drink plenty of water.
Cleanse your aura prior to class.
Get a good night's rest the evening before your class. In the morning if you are not fasting, eat a light healthy breakfast.Tips:
Daily prayers / connection with your inner guideance is recommended during this period.
Be prepared for a 21 day cleansing period following the attunement process.
If you are in a doctor's care you may wish to have him/her re-evaluate dosages of medicines being used after the 21 day purging/balancing period.
If you are traveling to a distant town for your attunement consider that you may not feel up to driving home. Have an alternate plan to stay overnight at a motel.More How To's from your Guide To Holistic Healing

Reiki and healing
Healing is the natural way in which imbalances within a body are
rectified so that the symptoms of the stress or illness can be
controlled. Sometimes our own natural ability to heal ourselves
cannot cope so we need the help of others. Drugs may help in the
short term but healing happens separately and this is why it is
important to understand the process so that patients can help
themselves back to health.
Healing the whole person has traditionally been seen as part of a co-
ordinated programme of treatment. Plato once said, "The cure of the
part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole. No
attempt should be made to cure the body without the soul. Let no one
persuade you to cure the head until he has first given you his soul
to be cured, for this is the great error of our day, that physicians
first separate the soul from the body."
However, the scientific approach has tended to separate the treatment
of the symptoms from treatment of the cause. Science does not
recognise the common factor that unites all traditional medicine,
i.e. the vitality or spirit of the patient. Vital force and spirit is
known as Chi in Chinese Medicine, Shakti in Indian Medicine, Vital
Force in Homoeopathy, etc.
So it is with Reiki, which began in the early 20th Century, with a
Japanese Buddhist Monk who, it is claimed sat in meditation on a
mountain in Japan and on the 20th day was shown, what he called "the
keys to the Universe" in the form of four Symbols.
So what about Reiki makes it so different to other forms of hands-on
holistic healing?
You can understand its basis in the belief that there is energy
within the human body. Hindu Yogis described the energy centres as
chakras. The Chinese define 'meridians' as channels of energy, that
with an uninterrupted flow around the body form the basis of good
health.
The world today is swamped by artificial energy. Before the 20th
Century the world was quiet, and all organisms were regulated by the
natural influences of the Earth and nature. The world today is
swamped by massive vibrations of artificial energy, a network of
abnormal fields and these manufactured fields are producing
abnormalities in human response.
But Reiki is also an energy field, with a vibration so strong that it
is not drowned out or swamped by manufactured energy. The four keys
to the universe are four symbols, that when applied to a person's
chakras lift that energy and their vibration, opening a person's soul
to their higher consciousness. It is a byproduct of this lifting of
the vibrations that cause healing.
We can strengthen our energy fields and our health. We must
strengthen ourselves to cope with the additional stresses of e.m.
pollution and this is where Reiki can play an important part.
There are no boundaries or limitations. People of any age or sex –
the elderly, women, men, teenagers, children and babies -- do derive
positive benefits from working with people who access this energy. If
you don't believe, then try it and find out. Tens of thousands of
people all over the world are finding out the truth of reiki energy
for themselves every year.

Five Objectives of the Working Senses - Pravritis
Holding, Pulling, Pushing
Walking, Running, Standing, Jumping, Kicking
Speaking, Singing
Sexual, Reproductive
Eating, Digesting and Evacuating
Ten Vein groups - Nadis
The Ida and Pingala Nadis start from the right and left toes, go up gradually in a scissors pattern parallel to the back bone, into the head, and then passing through the nostrils return to the anus.
The Susumna Nadi appears at the bottom of the anus. It combines with ida and pingala and with life air goes upto the top of head, sharingbreaths.
The Gandhari Nadi climbs from the navel, adjusting with the seven great veins. It spreads around the throat and takes seat under the tongue.
The Atti and Sikhu Nadis start from the anus and run up into the ears, protecting the instruments of hearing.
The Alampurusa and Alampada Nadis start from anus, run up into the eyeballs, directing their movement.
The Sangini and Guhu Nadis start from the navel and end under anusIda.
Ida, Pingala and Susumna combine in ‘vata’ creating constipation and other digestive problems, bringing lethargy and laziness, tamas.
Gandhari, Atti, Sikhu and Alampurusa combine in ‘pitha’ creating excessive heat, thirst, gastric upheavals, pressure, and bring up lusty desires, rajas.
Guhu, Sangini and Alampada combine in ‘kapha’ creating widening of the eyes, deepening of the eye-socket, excessive sweating of face, and anxiety resulting in depression, deeper tamas.
Ten kinds of life airs - Pranas
The vital force of life includes 5 main categories of life air, viz., prana, apana, vyana, samana and udana, assisted by 5 other categories of subtle life-airs viz., naga, kurma, gregara, devadatta, and dhananjaya. The vital force is like a snake because it is sustained by air, (snakes can subsist simply by drinking air) and when there is derangement of air, the vital force is weakened and thus with lesser resistance the body becomes a victim of diseases. Mental diseases are results of derangement of the subtle airs. Harmonizing the sustenance of vital force by meditation (like Reiki meditation) is especially beneficial to keep the airs ‘in order’ so that the diseases of the body become almost ‘nil’ by such exercise. When this is properly done, vital force need not be used up unnecessarily in fighting diseases. Thus, naturally the life-span will also increase. If one becomes really perfect in this, even control of death is possible, as has been proved by the great yogis of India.
Prana appears in the middle of eyebrows in the Ajna Chakra...
- then falls into the vein called ‘Citra’...
- vibrates ‘Aum’ in the pelvis (Muladhara Chakra)...
- echoes ‘Reem’ in the naval (Manipuraka Chakra)...
- runs through the Ida and Pingala nadi)...
- moves around the skull...
...and exits through the nostrils at four to twelve finger-spaces. For a perfect body, in 24 minutes it gives 360 breathes. Per day there are 21,600 breaths - 7,200 exhalations and 14,400 inhalations.
Apana flows from the naval down, functioning between the anus and genitals, helping evacuation of Liquids and solids.
Vyana is established in the shoulders. It works with 7,200 veins helping the limbs to fold and extend. It distributes the food nutrition equally so that bile does not increase.
Udana increases the fire in belly helping digestion.
Samana is established in the navel. It balances other airs, purifies the water and food intake and spreads all over the body protecting the balance.
Naga helps one to understand arts and crafts. It also controls the functioning of sight, opening and closing of the eye-lids, and the hair’s standing on end.
Kurma stays close to the mind, helping yawning, closing
of the mouth, and laughing.
Grigara helps the cleansing of the tongue and nostrils, and
the functioning of coughing and sneezing.
Devadatta creates laziness and anger. It flows between
the anus and the gentials.
Dhananjaya is seated in the nostrils. It helps the body
to swell when ‘prana’ leaves, and cracks through the
head on the third day after the death.
Five Vital Centers - Asayas
Annasaya is seated at the junction of drinking and eating.
Jalasaya is seated at the junction where water separates from intake of food.
Malasaya is seated in the junction where stool separates.
Slanchalasaya is seated in the junction where urine separates.
Suklasaya is seated in the junction where semen is stored.
Five Layers - Koshas
Annamaya protects the gross body.
Pranamaya combines the working senses and the activities of the subtle body while dreaming.
Manomaya combines with the working senses and the functioning of the subtle body in dreams.
Vijnanamaya combines with the intelligence and senses and functions in dreams.
Anandamaya is the basis of the causal body.
Three Componants - Dhatus
Air (Vayu or Vata) is produced when fire and water mix in life-air.
Bile (Pitha) is produced when fire and air mix in life-air.
Mucus (Kapha) is produced when water, fire and air mix in the life-air, separate from the body.

Top 10 Reiki Books
Usui Reiki was taught through oral tradition down the generation from teacher to student. This tradition is still strong, but with the worldwide interest of Reiki several books are flooding the market these days. At the very top of this listing is the Reiki book I wrote--The Everything Reiki Book.
1) The Everything Reiki Book
The Everything Reiki Book: Channel Your Positive Energy to Reduce Stress, Promote Healing, and Enhance Your Quality of Life--This new book was written by your Holistic Healing Guide, Phylameana lila Desy. It is scheduled for publication in March 2004.
Read Review
2) Reiki and the Healing Buddha
Author Maureen J. Kelly has outdone herself in her exploration and explanation of Reiki's rich symbology. This is not a text for a beginner, but one for the practitioner who wishes to take more penetrative look at the esoterical meanings associated with Reiki's principals and its symbols. An enjoyable intellectual read!
3) Reiki Energy Medicine : Bringing the Healing Touch into Home, Hospital
This book, co-authored by Libby Barnett and Maggie Chambers is a must for anyone interested in integrative medicine. The authors address the use of Reiki in hospitals, hospice and home settings, supporting both healing touch therapies and conventional medical treatments.
4) REIKI - Universal Life Energy : Heals Body, Mind & Spirit
Bodo Baginski and Shalila Sharamon book is a forerunner in written text on the subject of Reiki.Tanslated in several different languages. the book covers the history of the Reiki Master lineage through Hawayo Takata. Aside from the basics this book serves as an excellent reference book indexing spiritual reasoning for how/why illnesses and conditions manifest themselves into the physical.
5) The Power of Reiki: An Ancient Hands-on Healing Technique
Tanmaya Honervogt, Reiki Master-Teacher residing in the UK offers us a beautiful visual introduction to Reiki. The text is not meaty, so don't expect a lot of information, but the images do emit good Reiki vibrations.
6) Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art
Diane Stein's work gives a comprehensive look at the three levels of Usui Reiki. It takes a look at the Reiki story as it was passed down through oral tradition from healer to healer. ESSENTIAL REIKII was my introduction to Reiki and although I don't agree with the author on everything written in it....I do give the book merit overall. It opened doors for me.
7) Reiki, Hawayo Takata's Story
This is a skinny pocket size book written by Helen Haberly has an enormous appeal. Haberly shares with us the wonderous life story of Hawayo Takata, a powerful (yet small in stature) woman, who brought the teachings of Reiki's universal healing system to the United States from Japan. It is an amazing story that every Reiki student should read.
8) Modern Reiki Method For Healing
This editionis the English translation of a Japanese text written by Hiroshi Doi. Doi gives us a Japanese slant of view on Reiki as it is practiced in Japan today.
9) Reiki - The Legacy of Dr. Usui
Frank Arjava Petter, one of the better known historians who has explored the roots of Reiki, gives us a brief look at Mikao Usui, the man and his practices.
Vendor's Site
10) Reiki : Beyond the Usui System
Karyn K. Mitchell offers information for the advanced is importantas it truely does reach beyond Reiki discussing / outlining many other types of healing modalities that aren't necessarily associated with traditional Reiki. Mitchell devotes a section of her text explaining her own trademark technique she calls Trans-Reiki.

Quantum-Touch and Reiki
From Phylameana lila Desy,Your Guide to Holistic Healing.
Guest article by Richard Gordon
About this contributor: Richard Gordon is the author of Quantum-Touch: The Power to Heal. Founder of Quantum-Touch, author of "Your Healing Hands: The Polarity Experience"
Reiki is enhanced by Quantum-Touch. Quantum-Touch has no attunements or symbols. Quantum-Touch is a natural and innate skill that can be learned with simple breathing and body awareness techniques. These techniques allow the Quantum-Touch practitioner to powerfully focus and amplify the life-force energy.
Practitioners of Quantum-Touch don't become drained or tired from doing sessions. When I interviewed Reiki masters, about 40% reported that they had occasionally felt energy going up their arm, or had become tired and drained.
This is a function of the practitioner entraining or matching to the client's vibration. Without a skill to hold a high vibration, Reiki practitioners may at times become drained.
I've taught Quantum-Touch to numerous chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists and osteopaths who have been astounded to observe rapid structural realignment, reduction of inflammation, and other benefits.
Reiki masters who have taken my workshops have nicknamed Quantum-Touch, "Reiki empowerment" or "turbo charging the Reiki." I got a laugh when one of my students wrote in the review of my workshop that Quantum-Touch was "like Reiki on steroids." Both systems use the same life-forced energy. The Quantum-Touch practitioner learns to focus the energy like a laser, which takes concentration, body awareness and breath.
-- Richard Gordon
"Quantum-Touch greatly surprised me! I wasn't expecting the class to be as wonderful as it was! I received a miraculous healing of my back! I'm a Reiki Master and compared to Reiki, Quantum-Touch is surprisingly fast."
-- Betty Clegg, Lombard, CA
"I’ve been a Reiki teacher and practitioner for years, and this was a definite "next step" for me to "ramp up" my ability to run energy.
-- Paula Battaglio, Chicago, IL
"My energy was intensified to a level I never experienced with Reiki. I feel I have found what I was searching for to further my mission of 'helping others be their highest self possible.' I recommend anyone seeking healing or becoming a better person take this workshop."
-- Vicktor E. Ransom, Tacoma, WA
"An awesome experience for the skeptic in all of us!!! It's Reiki on steroids and without all the ritual. I like how pure it is."
-- Gary J., Boise, ID
"Of our nine class members one was not a Reiki practitioner. We all felt this class enhanced and augmented our abilities and understanding. We all flew with this class!"
-- Daniele DeVoe, Frankfort, MI
"Quantum-Touch magnifies and intensifies Reiki. It was wonderful to be able to spend the time practicing on each other and feeling the benefits of such a powerful energy. Thank You."
-- Suzanne Schartz, Aurora, CO
"For energy medicine practitioners, Quantum-Touch amplifies the effects of Reiki and other hands-on-healing techniques. For the layman, Quantum-Touch empowers the individual to tap into the innate healing abilities we all possess."
-- Ellen DiNucci, M.A. Project Coordinator Complementary and Alternative Medicine Program at Stanford University
"Very informative and energetic! Richard has a very simple, easy method that shows instant results for the participant. I found several new ways to increase my energy flow beyond my Reiki skills."
-- Gary Morris, Eugene, OR
"I am a Reiki Master and have had success with Reiki, but have found Quantum Touch to be very powerful and show results much more quickly. I have worked on two women who can feel the energy as it flows through their bodies. Their response has been that Reiki comes from without and Quantum Touch comes from within. I can feel the energy field surrounding people and can say from direct experience that Quantum Touch (especially after the Supercharging workshop) expands the individuals energy field at least tenfold, which would help account for the breakthroughs in health.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reiki
From Phylameana lila Desy,Your Guide to Holistic Healing.
Reiki FAQ
The following questions and answers are selected “excerpts” from Appendix A: Frequently Asked Questions reference section of The Everything Reiki Book: Channel your positive energy to reduce stress, promote healing, and enhance you quality of life Written by Phylameana lila Désy. Published by Adams Media; March 2004. Copyright© F+W Publications, Inc.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a natural healing system designed to assist in healing and help achieve balance. Reiki is administered by a practitioner, who serves as a conduit through whom the Universal Life Energy can be transmitted to the recipient, by either hands-on or distance healing techniques. Practitioners may also practice Reiki self-treatments.
How does Reiki energy flow?
Reiki flows through our palms at different rates of speed, depending on various factors such as the extent of the recipient’s illness, degree of blockage, his or her readiness to accept change, and so on.
Is Reiki a form of faith healing?
No, Reiki is not a religion, nor is it based on the acceptance of any religious doctrine. Having a belief system is not a requirement for Reiki to work. Reiki does not infringe on anyone’s right to believe what he or she wishes. However, Reiki’s principles are spiritual in nature and do encourage spiritual empowerment and growth.
Who can benefit from a Reiki treatment?
Reiki’s gift of increased energy and vitality can be extended to anyone. It doesn’t matter what a person’s gender, race, intelligence, or financial status is. Reiki is not a healing energy reserved only for the elite, wealthy, educated, or spiritually evolved.
What does Reiki feel like?
Common Reiki sensations are heat or coolness, “pins and needles” tingling, vibrational buzzing, electrical sparks, numbness, throbbing, itchiness, and drowsiness.
What is a Reiki attunement?
A Reiki attunement is a ritual performed by a Reiki Master. The ritual involves energetic placement of Reiki symbols through a specific set of sequenced actions into the student’s crown and palms.
Will Reiki ever run out?
When you are giving a Reiki treatment to someone, you are giving of your time and your intent to assist, but you are not giving away any of your own energy. Reiki is in infinite supply. It never runs out.
What is the purpose of the Reiki hand placements?
Emphasis is placed on devoting five minutes on each hand placement so that no part of the body is neglected and to ensure that each body part is given equal consideration.
Do I need to direct the flow of Reiki?
Reiki will automatically go to wherever it needs to go with no mental involvement of either the practitioner or the recipient. However, when mental intention is used, a linear pathway is opened. This cleared route allows Reiki to flow more effectively to that part of the body where attention is most desired.
What purpose do Reiki symbols serve?
Independently, each Reiki symbol has its own unique purposes. The combined function of these symbols is to provide Reiki practitioners with focal points for their healing intentions.
Why is Reiki called “smart energy”?
Reiki is an intelligent energy because it knows which areas of the body most need healing and will automatically flow to specific areas where suffering or imbalance are prevalent.

Rainbow Reiki
In the Reiki section of our website we welcome fellow Reiki practioners and Reiki masters, as well as those who are curious about Reiki.
We give Reiki workshops both in the Woodstock, NY area, and in New York City. Many students have chosen to combine a Reiki workshop with a short (or longer) vacation in the Catskill mountains.
We hold Reiki workshops at our house, in a very secluded spot surrounded by one thousand acres of woodlands. Wildlife abounds, and it's common to see deer, wild turkeys, and other animals in the course of a workshop.
We would love to have you visit us; we would love to share Reiki with you.
Our Brochure Read a detailed description of our Reiki workshops.
Email Course on the Chakras Reiki practitioners find that an understanding of the chakras deepens their practice. The chakra course is designed to correlate the chakras to related crystals, flower essences, and essentials. Students in eight countries have taken. For more information see a course description and a sample lesson.
I just wanted you to know how nice it was to read your pages concerning Reiki. They were simple, yet full of gentle, helpful guidance. Thank you for sharing your lessons.
